Wrestling MPire 2008: Career Edition

2008 is the year that 'good' becomes GREAT! After almost a decade of specializing in the genre, MDickie finally brings you wrestling at its most highly evolved. You'll need to be at your best if you're going to survive in this new era too. The most finely tuned statistics yet ensure that every percent counts when you square up against 200 unique opponents, spread across 6 major promotions. Meanwhile, the smoother and more responsive gameplay leaves no room for excuses in an action-packed ring where anything can happen. Polished off with the best graphics and presentation the series has ever enjoyed, you'll feel like you've found employment at a real wrestling show! And that's exactly what this Career Edition challenges you to do. Step backstage and seize control of your life with twice as many options, and talk your way through a political minefield that features twice as many pitfalls, as you embark on a career full of possibilities. 2008 is just the starting point. The rest of wrestling history is yours to write...
Requires a PC compatible with DirectX graphics. 1.6gHz processor recommended. Vista users may experience difficulties on "limited accounts" and are advised to run the program as an "administrator"...

Boxed Version
$16.99
Click to order the official boxed CD version of the game. It comes in a fully decorated jewel case, complete with a pull-out instructions summary and exclusive bonus material - including source code extracts, graphical templates, and demos of many previous games. Since space isn't an issue, the disc is also able to offer high quality versions of the game media! The product ships from California USA, so please anticipate shipping costs and delays for international orders. Also note that this is the game in its purest form, and is therefore the easiest to update...
The boxed game is also available from CafePress

Downloadable Version v1.9
(42mb)
Click to download a special trial version of the full game. You can load it up 3 times, free of charge, after which you must register at full price to continue. Orders are processed in US Dollars ($16.99), but international currencies are welcome and should be translated automatically. However, please note that these online versions aren't as easily updated as the pure boxed game...

Demo Version
(16mb)
Click to download a permanent demo of the gameplay. In the interests of a small download, please appreciate that many features have been restricted and/or reduced in quality. It merely gives you a chance to play a meaningless match between 2 preset characters. Simply take it as a test to ensure that the game works on your computer and then read the official preview or download the trial version to learn more about the full game...

Boxed Game v1.9 Update
(2mb)
Click to download a patch that allows the boxed game to benefit from all the very latest modifications. The jewels in the crown are the brand new "Victory Roll", "Test Of Strength", and "Crucifix Powerbomb" moves! Just make sure you install the new animations files properly to get them working. You may also want to take the time to distribute the moves amongst the characters, because they're obviously not in the move sets by default. Elsewhere, you can also enjoy plenty of bug fixes that keep the game running properly. Consult the accompanying "Version History" text document for the full story...

Data Converter
(1.6mb)
If you enjoy customizing my wrestling games, you'll be pleased to know that transferring files between Career Edition and Management Edition just got a hell of a lot easier! Despite their apparent similarities, the arcade versions and booking versions have always had different sets of data that they handle in their own way. That's still the case with this new series, but I've put together a special program to bridge the gap. This "Data Converter" uses the programming you wouldn't normally have access to to load up data from one game and save it for use with the other. You can then take those converted files away and toss them into your installation of the other game, which means any character changes you've made can be transferred properly...

Revised Character Data
(80kb)
If you want to bring the boxed game in line with the latest trial, you may also like to make use of these revised data files. They distribute the new moves amongst the characters as standard, and also tone down the number of relationships each person has (which makes things a little less political). If you're not comfortable with tossing around data files, you should probably avoid it. Otherwise go ahead and throw these files into your "Slot00" default universe or the "Backup" folder itself. It goes without saying that it'll overwrite whatever else is in there, so don't bother if you've got your own customized world! You may also want to start a new career with the data to avoid any potential discrepancies...

High Resolution Textures
(8mb)
Get the game looking its best with these high resolution versions of the costume textures. Simply use WinZip to extract the contents to your game's "Characters" folder and you should notice the difference. Be warned though - they're excluded by default because they greatly increase loading times and damage performance on slower computers! You may want to consider backing up the low resolution originals in case your gaming experience is negatively affected...

Wrestling MPire Fansites

If you don't like my humble graphics and fictitious rosters, there are several leading fansites where you can get content made by fans! There you'll find dedicated artists that have rather more time to devote to visuals than I did. The photo-realistic changes aren't always in keeping with the game's original style, but it's worth a look if you prefer that approach. And if you're inspired to make your own content, you can find an audience for that too:
